The summer solstice has arrived!  A time to enjoy the long days and warm sunshine.  A time to get together and connect with our loved ones more.  We have become so used to having more alone time these days and it can take a little extra effort to spend time with people.  However, it can be worth the extra push.  Not only is it good for our mental health, but we have become much more aware of how much we need each other.  We are social creatures and we are not meant to be secluded.  And summer coaxes us to go outside and be with each other.

The energy of summer brings joy and laughter and love.  It is about being together and joking around.  Sometimes being embarrassed.  Sometimes being enveloped in passion.  But these emotions require us to connect with each other.  And as humans it is important for us to feel all our emotions for our health.

So I ask you, what have you done lately to dive into the energy of summer?  Or what are you looking forward to doing soon?  Here’s a few ideas!

1.      Get into nature with a couple friends.  Whether it’s going to the beach or going for a hike or just having a meal in the backyard together, its so nice to enjoy the beautiful weather together.

2.      Have a playdate with the kids.  Maybe go to a park or enjoy your favorite outdoor activity.  Perhaps even a camping trip would be fun!

3.      Sit around a fire together.  Do you have a fire pit in the backyard?  Or perhaps you can join your local community fire (Sacred Fire Community).  Or even just lighting a candle and sitting around it with a few friends can really warm your spirit.

So wherever you are this summer, I hope that you can feel into the joy and laughter and love of the season.  It is true that summer is about a balance of being with people and having alone time as well.  But we have had an excess amount of quality alone time and so I say get out there and connect with your loved ones!  And then go home and have some recovery time lol!
